Company Profile

DustScan Limited is an independent spin-off company from Leeds University dealing with the monitoring, analysis and reporting of dust arising from industrial activities. For monitoring nuisance dust we supply the DustScan directional dust gauge and provide consultancy on a wide range of dust concerns.

The likely sources of such dust can be detected using the directional capabilities of the equipment. The firm has established methodologies for determining the character of dust sampled. Geochemical analysis of the dust collected can be used to match specific sources with airborne dust collected in the necessary direction. This can be used to resolve disputes relating to dust provenance or observe the propagation and dispersion of know substances. In addition we are developing the equipment and methodologies to enable the analysis of the chemistry and mineralogy of dust. The DustChem section provides more information on this area of expertise.

A new PM10 monitoring device, integrated with the DustScan directional gauge, provides a simplified method of PM10 monitoring. The system has been designed in a modular fashion to allow rapid and easy filter changes in the field. The low power consumption of the device enables sampling to run continuously for a 7 day period, meaning that the gauges only have to be serviced once a week. Standard operation can be undertaken by site personnel with limited training.
