Company Profile
DustScan Ltd was established in 2004 as an independent spin-off company from the Department of Mining and Minerals Engineering at Leeds University. Funded by the DTI, DustScan developed a low cost, directional dust monitoring system for the minerals industry. Comparative field trial research for the DustScan system was funded by the Mineral Industry Sustainable Technology (MIST) programme and managed by the Mineral Industry Research Organisation (MIRO) on behalf of DEFRA.
Although we initially developed our instruments and consulting capability through considering the dust issues connected with the opencast and quarrying sectors, we have now greatly enlarged our client base such that although we operate for almost all the major minerals operators in the United Kingdom, this represents less than 20% of our workload. A significant part of our monitoring, consulting and research activities relate to the landfill and recycling sectors of industry followed closely by remediation works associated with construction and demolition. DustScan equipment is increasingly being specified for dust monitoring during civil engineering projects.
