DustScan Laboratory Testing Services

Our de-humidified laboratory is equipped with filter conditioning apparatus, sample ovens, vacuum filtration equipment and a 5 decimal place balance. DustScan laboratory procedures follow BS EN 45001 guidelines.

 

Our services include:

 

Filter weighing

For personal Workplace Exposure (WEL) testing, gravimetric sampling of fine particulates (health-risk dust) and for environmental dust deposition monitoring.

 

Vacuum filtration

For the determination of dust deposition rates from settled dust samples – in accordance with the SEI-Y Frisbee sampling protocol.

 

Optical microscopy

We regularly undertake sample analysis using optical plane and polarised light microscopy (PPL, XPL). Our microscopes are allied to digital cameras allowing us to capture detailed photomicrographs of dust samples with up to 40 x magnification. We can identify individual dust particles and have carried out investigative studies looking for organic wastes, cellulose fibres and specific minerals.
