DustScan retained consultant promoted to Professor at Portsmouth University

Mike Fowler, one of the firm’s earliest academic consultants, has been promoted to the position of Professor of Geochemistry with effect from 1st September. Mike, working in conjunction with the staff, encouraged by Dr. Geoff Walton now Chairman and Dr. Hugh Datson, retained consultant, has been instrumental in assisting the firm with the development of dust monitoring techniques and interpretation, and in dust modelling and mapping. In particular he has worked closely on the geochemistry of directional dust to identify specific elements for forensic purposes

The firm has had close links with Portsmouth University ever since Mike moved there in 2008; the School of the Environment, Geography and Geoscience now awards the DustScan Prize for the best undergraduate project in Applied Environmental Science. A close consultancy-academia link is essential to any responsible technical consultancy especially in developmental R&D.

DustScan celebrates 100,000 dust samples!

At DustScanAQ we like to celebrate our achievements and today the company reached another unique milestone: our intern Sam Wootton analysed our 100,000th dust sample!

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Tarmac was our client who submitted the 100,000th dust sample and as a celebration we will issuing a certificate, waiving the analysis fee and enjoying a slice of cake in the office.

A thanks must go to our own Tracey Volley, who we calculate has logged, batched, sealed and scanned about 30,000 samples in her time with us.

DustScanAQ analysed its first dust sample in 2004 and it feels like only yesterday we analysed our 50,000th sample in 2014. Samples have come from all corners of the globe including Australia, Bermuda and Azerbaijan.

The second 50,000 samples took half the time of the first 50,000. This reflects the organic growth of the company: since 2014 we have grown in numbers and expertise, offering a wider suite of consultancy services including air quality, odour and occupational exposure.
