Occupational Exposure – Aerosols
At DustScanAQ, we specialise in occupational exposure monitoring, delivering expert assessments of airborne dust and workplace aerosols. Our team has extensive experience in characterising both inhalable and respirable dusts, including respirable crystalline silica (RCS), to help employers maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
In addition to dust, we routinely monitor exposure to a wide range of airborne contaminants. These include volatile organic compounds (VOCs), asbestos fibres, machine-made mineral fibres (MMMF), welding and solder fumes, acid fumes, oil mists, bioaerosols, and industrial gases.
Workplace Air Monitoring Services
We offer comprehensive workplace air monitoring using both personal and static sampling methods. Our consultants work across a wide variety of environments, including:
- Quarries, stonemasonry sites, and aggregate recycling facilities (RCS monitoring)
- Construction and demolition sites (RCS and asbestos)
- Manufacturing units (wood dust, welding fumes, VOCs)
- Recycling and waste management facilities (dust and bioaerosols)
- Food production sites including bakeries and patisseries (flour dust)
- Warehouses and logistics operations (dust and diesel engine exhaust emissions)
- Intensive farming and grain processing sites (dust and ammonia)
What sets us apart is our fully managed, hands-on service. We supervise all monitoring directly on site, taking an impartial, professional approach. During assessments, we observe staff activities and behaviours, identify potential pollutant sources, and review any existing control measures already in place.
Occupational Exposure Assessments and Reporting
We use the latest Casella sampling equipment and accredited laboratory analysis to deliver detailed reports on dust and aerosol exposure. All monitoring follows current MDHS14/4 guidance, ensuring precision and regulatory compliance.
We calculate 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) concentrations and compare these against COSHH EH40 Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs), alongside guidance from NIOSH, OSHA, CLAW, and CAR. Where relevant, we also deploy real-time monitoring technology, including optical particle counters and gas sensors, to assess short-term exposure limits (STELs) and time-series trends.
Our consultants are BOHS-qualified occupational hygiene professionals with experience delivering over 400 monitoring surveys across the UK. We focus on providing practical, actionable insights to help improve workplace air quality and regulatory compliance.
